Back to School, Backed by Community – 2026 Festival

On August 15, 2026, Haitians of Toronto welcomed families to Knob Hill Park in Scarborough for our annual Back-to-School Festival.

This event is about more than giving away school supplies. Back-to-school season can be expensive, and for many families, a new backpack means one less expense to worry about and one more child starting school feeling prepared.

This year, we distributed 111 backpacks to children and youth in our community. Families also received lightly used clothing and shoes, enjoyed free food, music and activities, and had the opportunity to connect with local organizations and resources.

Nearly 150 community members joined us, supported by 30+ volunteers, 20+ community partners and four sponsors. We also recognized 10 individuals for their contributions to our community.

What made the day special was seeing children excited about choosing their backpacks, families enjoying time together, and community members showing up for one another.

To every family who joined us and every volunteer, partner and sponsor who helped make the day possible, thank you.

Together, we helped 111 children start the new school year a little more prepared and reminded ourselves what community looks like in action.
