Haitians of Toronto launches a free four-week virtual program offering practical employment preparation, personalized résumé assistance, interview coaching, and access to educational opportunities.

October 2026 | Community Programs & Newcomer Support

Starting a new life in Canada brings exciting opportunities, but finding employment and navigating an unfamiliar job market can also present challenges. Newcomers may have valuable education, professional experience, and skills from their home countries yet struggle to understand Canadian recruitment practices, résumé expectations, or the pathways available to continue their careers.

To help address these challenges, Haitians of Toronto is launching Nouveau Début, a free four-week virtual program beginning November 18, 2026.

Designed primarily for Haitian and Francophone newcomers in Ontario, Nouveau Début connects participants with practical employment resources, knowledgeable professionals, and personalized guidance to help them take meaningful steps toward their career goals.

A Practical Approach to Employment Readiness

Nouveau Début goes beyond traditional information sessions. Participants will have opportunities to apply what they learn, develop essential job-search materials, and receive individual support.

Throughout the program, participants will learn how to identify employment opportunities, understand the Canadian recruitment process, prepare professional résumés, and build confidence for job interviews.

An important feature is the opportunity to receive one-on-one résumé reviews and individual interview practice, helping participants identify their strengths and areas for improvement.

Four Weeks of Learning and Career Development

Week 1 — November 18: Understanding the Canadian Job Market

Participants will explore how employment recruitment works in Canada, where to find legitimate job postings, how to identify transferable skills, and what rights employees have in Ontario. The session will also feature legal education from a guest professional.

Week 2 — November 25: Résumé Writing and Interview Preparation

This workshop will focus on developing Canadian-style résumés, presenting international experience, preparing cover letters, and practising effective interview techniques. Participants will also learn how to communicate their qualifications confidently to potential employers.

Week 3 — December 2: Careers in Education

Participants will discover employment opportunities within Ontario's education sector, including school-board career pathways and recruitment expectations.

The session will feature Daphney Sancé, Principal of École Antonine-Maillet, who will share professional insights and practical guidance.

Week 4 — December 9: Educational Pathways and Future Opportunities

The final workshop will feature a planned collaboration with Université de l'Ontario français (UOF) to introduce participants to educational pathways, microprograms, admission processes, and available scholarship opportunities.

Participants will also be encouraged to identify their next steps toward employment, further education, or professional development.

Personalized Support That Makes a Difference

One of the goals of Nouveau Début is to ensure that participants leave with more than information.

Through individualized support, participants can receive feedback on their résumés and practise responding to interview questions in a supportive environment.

These opportunities are designed to help participants better understand employer expectations, recognize the value of their existing experience, and strengthen their readiness to pursue employment opportunities.
